Review: Jane Austen's Northanger Abbey is a satirical Gothic novel following Catherine Morland, a young woman whose imagination is fired by Gothic fiction during a visit to Bath and the titular abbey. Persuasion, Austen's final completed novel, tells the story of Anne Elliot and her rekindled romance with Captain Wentworth. Both novels were published posthumously in 1817. This Macmillan edition, illustrated by Hugh Thomson, remains one of the most attractive Victorian presentations of Austen's work.
